It is a relatively new sport that aims to further integrate people with disabilities into the world of Muay Thai.
Para Wushu
What is Parawushu? Parawushu Greece (ក្រងងងកង人武术最作)- Χila Canjiren Wushu Yundongyuan - Wushu for Athletes with disabilities in Greece - Kung Fu/Wusu from and for athletes with disabilities in Greece. It is the daily practice of people with disabilities in Wushu (martial art), or as it has become popular in the west called Kung Fu (time / energy) Wushu is a large family of Chinese martial arts with a multitude of styles. The registered styles in China and around the world are over 100. Some of the styles cultivated and developed in Greece are the following: Outside: - Shaolin quan, - Choy lee fut, - Wing chun, - Ying shou quan, - Hung gar, - Fu jow pai - Tang lang quan - Shuai jiao (Chinese wrestling) Internally: - Taiji quan (Chen, Wu, Yang, Wu hao, Sun, Wu tang) Internally – Externally: - Xinyi quan, - Bajiquan, - BaguaZhang, - Tongbiquan (Ape style) So practicing in any of these Kung Fu styles people with disability is called Parawushu. Either at individual or group level (Inclusive). Either as personal training and rehabilitation of injuries or illnesses, i.e. for reasons of health and strengthening of the physical condition, or within the context of integration and inclusion of children and adults with neurodevelopmental disorders within a group. Either even in the form competition in Intercollegiate and Panhellenic championships of the Hellenic Wushu Kung Fu Federation. Finally for self-defense purposes, as Wushu has cultivated and developed the fighting ability of man for thousands of years. A few words about the name Parawushu... It has prevailed in all sports practiced by athletes with disabilities preceded by the prefix para (para) with the central sporting event of the Paralympics best known to all. The same happens with us. We chose this name not so much as an attempt to include Parawushu in a future paralympics that would encompass it but to capitalize on the original ideals of the disability movement and the way it put sport into disability. A way of integration and rehabilitation that is. The "founders" of this of effort at the Stokemandeville Rehabilitation Hospital establish this prefix at the 1948 sports games working with disabled people from the 2nd world war. The spirit was exactly the same as the ideals of Kung Fu, respect for man and nature (Taoism, Buddhism), especially after such a murderous and inhumane war. para/para therefore starts from paraplegic (paraplegia), on the one hand and at the same time from the Greek parallel (olympiad - parallel Olympiad - paralympics – para-sports - parallel sports/arts in general). Thus, names and designations are avoided early on and divisive, such as: special sports, special sports/abilities/skills, which, after all, the Greek legal code has officially stopped for years.
